As we approach the fall season and on-going shifts in our lives, we are given opportunities to invite God into each day, to walk along with us through all changes.
Consider connecting with the Holy through silence and/or stillness. At its simplest ...
Silence is: Not talking. Listening. Not pursuing endless thoughts or possible responses; staying open to the Holy Spirit’s lead.
Stillness is: Not moving. Allowing stillness to help us focus on what is going on around us or in us.
Each may allow us to Experience God in prayer, in nature, in others or in the ordinary events of daily life.
What has been your experience of silence or stillness, how did it impact you?
A Couple of Spiritual Exercises
- Sit in silence with your eyes closed. Simply be with God, gently letting go of any thoughts or images. (Start with a small increment of time using a timer to avoid the distraction of time-keeping.)
- While doing a task, turn off any background noise. Be in the present. Offer your task to God or for a prayer intention.
